Shih-Yen Chen is prize winner in National MTNA Young Artist Competition

Congratulations to Shih-Yen Chen (DMA), National Third Place Winner in the MTNA Young Artist Woodwind Competition!  Shih-Yen represented Texas and the South Central Division at the national MTNA conference in Chicago.   What a great accomplishment!

Graduate clarinet quartet advances to the Quarterfinals of the Fischoff Competition

The graduate clarinet quartet, Quartet a4, advances to the Quarterfinal round of the Fischoff Competition! The Fischoff Competition is the nation’s largest and most prestigious chamber music competition. After submitting a DVD application, Quartet a4 was one of only twelve wind ensembles to be invited by the screening committee. The Quarterfinals will take place on May 9th in South Bend, Indiana. Quartet a4 members are: Shih-yen Chen, Nick Councilor, Winnie Fan, and Tim Skinner. Congrats to Quartet a4 and good luck!

Graeme Johnson wins silver medal in Young Texas Artists Music Competition

Graeme Johnson (junior performance) earns the silver medal in the Winds, Brass, Percussion, Harp & Guitar Division for the Young Texas Artists Music Competition. The competition was held in Conroe, Texas. The three-day event was held in Conroe, Texas and is open to musicians between the ages of 18 and 32 who are Texas residents or students enrolled in a Texas college, university or music school. In addition to the medal, Graeme won a $1,000 cash prize. Congratulations Graeme!

Shih-yen Chen wins Divisional MTNA Competition

Congratulations to Shih-Yen Chen on being named the winner in the South Central Division MTNA Competition “Young Artist Performance!” She will compete as a national finalist on March 11th in Anaheim, California. Good luck Shih-yen!
(On a similar note, this will be the third consecutive year that a UT clarinetist has advanced to the final round of this MTNA competition.)
